Dennis James, Pioneer Game Show Host and Announcer

Dennis James worked almost continually in television since first stepping in front of an
kinescope camera of an experimental station in Passaic New Jersey in 1938.

James was a television personality in 1946 when most Americans were
still peeking at the strange sets in department store windows.
By the 1950s he was doing announcing jobs on 13 live shows a week,
The Price is Right, Name that Tune, Ted Mack's Amateur Hour and more,
earning $500,000 a year.

He was still hosting Name that Tune in the 1980's.

Before the Cerebral Palsy telethon went national in the early eighties,
Dennis James flew all over this country on a monthly basis hosting telethons
in Cities large and small to raise money for their specific community.
He was the Cerebral Palsy host for 47 years and those telethons raised
nearly 1 BILLION dollars for Cerebral Palsy.
